History

The development of Science and Technology (IPTEK) through research activities is expected to become the foundation for the advancement of civilization and the welfare of society by responding to global changes and the new order of life in society, the nation, and the state. Therefore, research activities are expected to produce works that can not only be applied to solve national problems or improve public welfare but must also be able to produce publishable scientific works.

Limited resources, the diverse expertise of researchers, and the complexity of national problems require Undip (Undip) to determine research focus areas or centers of excellence to enhance research competitiveness. Undip recognizes that it is impossible to provide facilities, infrastructure, and funding systems for all staff with diverse expertise and abilities.

The existence of a Center of Excellence (CoE) is a crucial parameter for enhancing the competitiveness of higher education research. The CoE is expected to serve as a hub for interaction among all researchers, fostering synergy to produce research that is not only publishable but also applicable and commercially valuable. The diversity of research topics pursued by Undip researchers without prioritizing them has hampered Undip’s research competitiveness.

In determining the Center of Excellence, in addition to considering the capacity and results achieved and Undip’s 2010-2014 strategic plan, Undip also closely monitored the government’s development policy direction. The Center of Excellence was determined through a focus group discussion (FGD) involving university leaders, faculty leaders, heads of research and community service institutions, relevant administrative bureaus, research representatives, and representatives from other stakeholders (industry and government). The FGD resulted in the Undip Center of Excellence being “Tropical and Coastal Region Eco-Development.” In addition to focusing on this Center of Excellence, the development of an integrated laboratory is also directed at stem cell research as a future applied research field.

In conjunction with the establishment of the Center of Excellence, Diponegoro University also established an Integrated Laboratory at the Integrated Laboratory Building, Jl. Prof. Soedarto, Tembalang, Semarang 50275. This unit serves as a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for research activities involving all researchers, providing analysis and calibration services, laboratory training, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) processing and registration services.

Quality Policy

  • The laboratory has and implements a documented quality policy/guidelines and quality management system to ensure the quality of test results.
  • The laboratory ensures that all laboratory personnel understand and implement the quality management system and are free from any influence or pressure that could affect the quality of test results.
  • The laboratory ensures that every stage of laboratory activities complies with the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.
  • The laboratory implements occupational health and safety standards and supports environmental management in accordance with laws and regulations.

Quality Objectives

To continuously improve the effectiveness of the quality management system implementation and achieve customer satisfaction with the quality of test data, the Undip Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPT) has established the following quality targets:

  • Test results from laboratory activities are accountable for their accuracy and validity (estimated measurement uncertainty is less than 10%).
  • The number of laboratory customers increases annually (minimum customer increase of 10%).
  • Customer testing service turnaround times are more timely (maximum 15 working days).

Organizational Structure and Personnel

The Undip Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPT), or Center of Research and Services Diponegoro University (CORES-DU), is managed in a structured manner under the parent organization of Diponegoro University, based on Rector of Diponegoro University Regulation Number 13 of 2024 concerning the Organization and Work Procedures of Elements Under the Rector of Diponegoro University.

The Undip Integrated Laboratory Unit is a technical implementation unit in the field of laboratory services, directly reporting to the Rector, and supervised by the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation. The organizational structure of the Undip Integrated Laboratory Unit is as stipulated in Rector of Diponegoro University Decree Number 86/UN7.A/HK/II/2025 concerning the Organizational Structure of the Integrated Laboratory Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Diponegoro University.
